Report calls for changes to treatment in police custody
When Theresa May was Home Secretary in 2015, she met families of men who had died in police custody. She was so moved that she demanded that the Home Office investigate. Its report was completed at the beginning of this year and was due to be published this week, but now the Home Office has said it will not be published for two months. Channel 4 News has seen the report which recommends fundamental changes to the way police deal with people in custody.
Police disciplinary hearing over 2010 student death to be held behind closed doors
The disciplinary hearing for six Metropolitan Police officers who are facing gross misconduct charges over the 2010 death of Olaseni Lewis will be held behind closed doors. Only the verdict will be made public. An inquest jury found the 23-year-old had been subject to unnecessary, unreasonable and excessive force which contributed to the student’s death.
